Advice from a Neighbor

rdorrell said...
Spring cleanup- It's that time of year that we should be thinking about our plants and shrubs. This past winter was hard on them and we need to take a little care now to insure great looking plants this summer.Take a look at your plants now and if there are broken branches, snip them off. Look at the roots and if any are exposed, cover them so they don't dry out. Now it's time to get the fertilizer, Holly Tone works well, and give a light coat at the base of each plant. My next blog will be about mulching and pruning so stand by.Ron

BTW. Ron, from this point it would be best to start a new thread under your name as you are a blogger and part of the group. Next time just start a new post and thanks for joining and sharing.

Being Neighbors

Do you think we might collectively gather some thoughts on what it means to be neighbors? I think that, at times, we may each inadvertently do things that are irritating or offensive to others. My guess is that we may not always be clear in our image of what our part should be in making for a good community. We are all invested in our homes, even if we only rent and we each play a part in keeping the worth of Wingspread high. When an individual trashes our community it effects us all. We can each play a role in maintaining a high standard for our community and we can all keep an eye out for those who don't seem to care.

To that end I'd like to start a thread. Here are a couple of things that I suggest and I would hope that each of you will add your thoughts or observations. Just write your comments and I'll try to add them to the list.

1. On trash day and recycling day it would be nice if we did not completely block the sidewalk with our trashbags as some people use those walks.

2. Also on those days...... if it looks like it may be windy, make sure your trash is bundled well so that it does not blow all over.

3. Littering is as bad in Wingspread as it is on the highway. If you pick up the one or two little pieces of litter and drop them in your trash it stops the progression of litter that leads to a major problem. Neighborhoods go down hill when folks let problems like trash mount. BTW...is your deck and back area beginning to look like a mini-dump?

4. Many folks go to bed fairly early and appreciate it when we hold the noise down late in the evening.

5. I'm sorry but those ruts in the grass from vehicles are most likely put there by kids and they cost us all money, as time is spent doing repairs. If you think your youth is involved in that sort of thing maybe a little talk on responsibility is in order.

6. Those of us who have dogs should interpret the sign "Curb Your Dog" to mean "Don't let your dog poop on the grass or where people walk and always clean up the plop immediately". That is the small price we pay for having and loving our pets.

there's a start. now it's your turn.

Shrubs

OK, does anyone know why the shrubs and plantings were removed around the electric boxes and are there plans to replace them? Our neighbor Ron thinks it might be something in the rules of the electric company that requires the station to be free of surrounding material but we think it would be nice to know ~~~ after all, we LIVE here.

Frank has responded to this and you can get the info by reading the comment. You can also add a comment or start a new thread if you are a member.

Welcome

Would you like to join in sharing thoughts and comments about living here in Wingspread? How about visiting a place where you could ask questions or even suggest how things might be improved?

We have set up this Blog (that stands for WeBlog) and it is a way for us to share, exchange and stay in touch. There is no cost and it is avaliable to anyone using a computer on the Internet. It is important that participants take a few minutes to sign up and it is necessary that you get an invitation so that you can join. That's the way it works and, for now, that invitation will have to come from me. You can visit the Blog at www.OurWingspread.blogger.com but you need to register to participate.

There will be a few rules and anyone who can't handle them should not join in or will be blocked from further participation. For now these are:
1. No Swearing
2. No Obscenities
3. No selling or soliciting
4. No forwarding any of the other crap we get daily, and
5. No personal insults or attacks on individuals

If you are willing to give it a try send me an email at eyemay@email.com and I'll send you an invitation. I would also appreciate it if you could send along any email addresses you have for our neighbors or if you can invite them to look at our Blog for themselves.

Horst Group has agreed to participate and monitor the Blog and to use it as a medium for sharing information. We really want Horst to be involved and to contribute. Our goal is to keep this exchange in the hands of the residents and owners with Horst continuing it's role of managing the complex. Of course, the Board is also invited to take part and may even want to consider assumming responsibility for the Blog if the residents concur.

BTW. Kathy and I live at 83 Winchester
